Gradiska Municipality is located on the northwest part of BiH, RS entity, next to Sava river bordering Croatia. Thanks to its geographical position, Gradiska has always been at the crossroads which even today ensures very good connection with regional centers: Banja Luka, Zagreb and Belgrade. It is documented about 700 years ago under the name Gradiska Brod. However, its life, downtown as well further, goes back to prehistorically in time, and many archeological sites testify that. Tourist offer includes visit to the town and sightseeing in the town as well as Sava river shores with micro-locations: Cultural center, National Museum, the old municipality building – the City Hall from 1880 and the Hotel “Kajzer” declared national monuments.  All mentioned above lies in the city center with the untouched natural park of nature with protected trees, and next to it there is a fishing path which has been holding state competition for the past 20 years. Tourist can walk around the Laminci over 6 hectares of space, and also enjoy different sports challenges. Lake fishing is one of this area favorite where you can be amazed with sizes of catfish, carp, perch and pike. Fly-fishing can be accompanied with relaxed coffee shops on the river or little further in the Cultural center. Interested tourist can visit Kozara mountain about 20 km away with 80 km of marked paths and resting picnic areas.

Cultural and historical heritage, Natural beauties

  • Lower Valley, famos settlement from I millenium before Christ, located 20 km down the Sava river.
  • Archeological site of Monastery, Gornji Kijevci - Karanovac. It is a multilayered Roman site (villa rustica – agricultural estate) and from the mielddle age (monastery church with agricultural building), where amongst all others, there is one of the oldest „glagoljica“ handwritten pieces from the XI Century on the territory of the ex Yugoslavia. Additional to that, cirilics written piece from the year 1301. mentioning the monastery priest from Lomnica monastery as well as „glagoljica“ written piece mentioning Mileta Stojic.
  • Archeological site Marija Teresia Town - Vrbaski Grad.
  • Archeological site Servicijum – one of the largest Roman ports on the right side of Sava river formed in the Ist Century bne, and it lasted until the second half of 4th Century. It represented one of the main ports and was a connection point between Siscija (Sisak) and Sirmijum (Sremska Mitrovica).
  • Archiological site Kocicevo – located on the farmland of Djuro Stijekovic in the Kocicevo village, representing the settlement of younger neolite with halfburried dougouts and homes over the ground. In addition to numerous archiological materials from the period of younger neolite, next to one of the houses over the ground, the oldest human scelet was found in BiH and is about 6,000 old.
  • The old municipality building – the City Hall and the old Hotel “Kajzer”
  • Memorial complex “Trinaest skojevki” (13 skoy women).
  • The wodden church in Romanovci,
  • Medresa, Turbe Sejh- Gaibija and harem Tekija mosque.

On the temporary list of national monuments in BiH, there are also District Church of the St. Rock and Distric Pastoral Center Gradiska, The monastery of the Sisters of the Blood of Christ with the church in Nova Topola, District church of St. Josip, Pastoral Center Nova Topola.

Objects noted from the Institute: the Old University, Kovacevic House, The Old Print Shop, Gvojic House, The Old Hotel, Music School, Obradovic House (Fisherman restaurant), Orthodox church, a The Church of the Holy Mother of God, Prcic House (Beer house), Drinic House, the Old House ( Penguin caffee), houses in Lepa Radic street, Jablanica restaurant, etc.

Natural beauties of Gradiska Municipality have plenty of natural resources such as Kozara and Prosara mountains with its surroundings, Sava river with its affluent rivers and Posavina area, then numerous lakes, caves (in Trnovac). These natural resources are rich in attractive mountain landscapes and low relief landscapes.

As a part of Kozara, around Subotici picnik site, there is 80 km of marked mountain paths according to the international standards in ecologicaly clean area between the two rivers Lubina and Turjak. They also connect Archeological site Marija Teresia Town in Podgradci to Monasteries in Gornji Kijevci and caves in Trnovac. Path along the Sava river from Jablanica to Bradaca 30 km long, in ecologicaly preserved area.


In case you would like to try some domestic specialties, you won't regret this area's cicvara and pura (types of corn meal), proja (type of bread), kukuruza (corn bread), different types of pitas, fried bread, German cheese, Bosnian pot stew, cakes like kadaif, gurabija, tuifahija, etc.            

Main gastro offer consists of variety of roasted lamb, pork, chicken, and ground beef specialties (cevapi, hamburgers), different sausages, smoked pork and beef, fresh salads, and pickled cabbage, peppers, mixed picked salad etc. There are also river and lake fish available: Carp, catfish, perch, pike, trout and other small fish.
