Gracanica

Gračanica, Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bosnia and Herzegovina

Property Description

In Bosnia there are several Gracanicas, but there is only one ripped off of Sokol, the medieval royal town, and then suddenly stopped about an hour of walking little bit more to the south, on the left side of Sokolusa river, under the old medieval iron mine, in front of dark Ozren shadows, and in the middle of the open and windy Specko fields, once called Gracanicko.

Archaeological remains found from the Neolithic period in Korica Han (southern exit from Gracanica) testify there was human settlement back in the dawn of history.

It flourished in the late 17th Century, during Ahmed Pasha Budimlija rule, who built Carsija Mosque, Hamam (the public bath) and clock tower as a recognizable feature of Gracanica. Powerful captains Gradascevic’s beautiful Madrasa can be found here as well.

During the Austro-Hungarian Empire, Gracanica adopted all the features of a modern town. A rapid development of this town started at this time and it is linked with other parts of Bosnia by rail and modern roads. This is how Gracanica got its first railroad station, and Ciro as the symbol of that time is still located at the same spot to be remembered.

This town has always welcomed people with open heart, patiently teaching them the culture of Bosnia, coexistence and tolerance that exist here. Gracanica is a strong economic point, which has powerful giants in the food manufacturing, meat processing, metals and a wide range of products Gracanica’s small business. Gracanica has always welcomed all good people keeping this tradition even today. If you have a chance to visit this town, you will love the feeling of “being home”.
